In Australia, the electricity that powers your home or business is delivered through a distribution network. Think of it as the highway of power lines and poles that bring electricity from the generators to your doorstep. In NSW, there are three main distributors responsible for this essential service:
Ausgrid : Mainly serving Sydney and surrounding areas
Endeavour Energy : Covering much of Sydney’s Greater West, the Blue Mountains, the Illawarra, and the South Coast
Essential Energy : Responsible for most of regional and rural NSW
While you don’t get to choose your distributor, understanding who they are can be helpful in case of power outages or other network-related issues. However, the good news is that you do have the power to choose your electricity provider (also called supplier)—the company that sells you the electricity that flows through the network.
